Gene insisted years before we ever got cats that we would have to get two so he could name them after two famous (in their circles) computer graphics geniuses. Phong is named after Phong Biu-Tuong who invented Phong Shading.

Phong
Before Shalom took over the job, Phong was the loud, late-night meower of the house. I made up a little ditty about him standing outside the bedroom door, meowing his head off at 2:43 in the morning... ... it goes like this:

My name is Phong, Phong, Phong
And I meow all night long, long, long
I'm as loud as a gong, gong, gong
Gene is going to send me to Hong
      Kong, Kong, Kong
If I sing my little song
